‘Underside’

2020

Tracing back to my previous work, I am keen on exploring people’s psychologies and also the philosophy of life. Some of the pieces were personal but I thought I should put my attention to more present issues. The outbreak of the coronavirus has a great influence on our daily life. I think the face mask is one of the most typical things when we think of the pandemic.

The most significant thing in my photography pieces is the emotions beyond the pictures. All the expressions of the models are fierce and melancholy. The photos are mainly in a cool tone. Only a little yellow light or flowers give a wisp of a warm breeze to the whole atmosphere. I am more used to letting the audience think of my work first without being told the meanings or ideas behind it. So most of my pieces seem abstract. Besides, the scenes in the photos are also a key element in my work. There are two scenes, one is in a dark room and the other is in a park. The choice of the scenes also shows my ideas of contrasting isolation and freedom. Being alone in a dark space and running on grass in nature create different but also harmonious atmospheres.
